Physical Description

The CBD-12 is a compact mobile radio housed in a metal chassis with a simple Delco front panel. It is designed for under-dash mounting using a bracket. The front panel includes a rotary channel selector, combined volume and squelch control, and a microphone connector. A handheld push-to-talk microphone is used for transmit audio.

The unit uses external wiring for power and antenna connection and operates independently of the vehicle’s broadcast radio system.

History

The CBD-12 was produced during the early CB radio adoption period in the 1970s, when lower channel-count radios were still in use prior to the widespread transition to 23-channel equipment. Its crystal-controlled design reflects standard technology of that period.

As CB radio standards expanded and PLL-synthesized designs became common, earlier crystal-controlled radios like the CBD-12 were phased out.
