Physical Description

The SBE-24CB is a handheld portable radio with a rectangular case similar in form to later Shasta series units. It includes a built-in speaker and microphone for self-contained operation. Controls are mounted on the front panel and typically include channel selection, volume, and squelch.

A telescoping whip antenna is mounted to the unit for portable use, with provision for an external antenna connection.

History

The SBE-24CB was introduced in the late 1960s as part of SBE’s early handheld CB product line. It predates or parallels the SBE-25CB “Shasta II” and reflects the early stage of portable CB development when radios commonly supported only a small number of user-selected crystal channels.

Its two-channel configuration made it suitable for simple, localized communication where only a limited number of frequencies were required.

Legacy

The SBE-24CB represents one of the earlier handheld CB transceivers from SBE and illustrates the progression of portable CB equipment from very limited channel capacity toward more flexible designs in later models.
