History

Eldorado Hotel Casino was founded by Don Carano, a Reno attorney who entered the gaming industry in the early 1970s. The property originally opened as the Eldorado Hotel Casino in downtown Reno in 1973.

The casino expanded steadily during the 1970s and 1980s, becoming one of Reno’s major gaming destinations. The Carano family later formed Eldorado Resorts, which expanded beyond Reno into a large national gaming company.

During the 1990s and 2000s, Eldorado expanded its downtown Reno presence through partnerships and property acquisitions. The development of “The Row” interconnected Eldorado, Silver Legacy, and Circus Circus Reno into a combined entertainment district.

In 2020, Eldorado Resorts completed the acquisition of Caesars Entertainment Corporation. Following the merger, the combined company continued under the Caesars Entertainment name, making Eldorado’s ownership group one of the largest casino operators in the United States.

Eldorado Hotel Casino remains one of Reno’s best-known casino properties and continues operating as part of Caesars Entertainment.
