Website Description
Founded in 1992 as Ibertech, Inc. in Bedford, Texas, Aloha Technologies pioneered the modern restaurant point-of-sale industry by introducing the world’s first commercial Windows-based touch-screen POS software. Best known for its flagship Aloha TableService and Aloha QuickService platforms, the company revolutionized hospitality management through intuitive graphic order entry and decentralized local network fault tolerance. Acquired by Radiant Systems in 2004 for approximately $45 million, Aloha’s software architecture became the cornerstone of enterprise hospitality management, continuing globally today under NCR Voyix Corporation.
Overview
Aloha Technologies (originally incorporated as Ibertech, Inc.) was an American hospitality software development company headquartered in Bedford, Texas. Founded in 1992 by Manny Negreiro and Brian Cook, the enterprise transformed restaurant technology by breaking away from proprietary, text-based cash register operating environments to deploy the industry’s first native Microsoft Windows-based point-of-sale (POS) system. Aloha became an industry standard across independent eateries and multi-unit restaurant chains alike due to its touch-screen graphical user interface and robust peer-to-peer network failover architecture. In 2004, Radiant Systems acquired Aloha Technologies in a transaction valued at roughly $45 million, pairing Aloha’s market-leading software with ruggedized retail hardware. Through subsequent acquisitions by NCR Corporation in 2011 and the 2023 corporate partition into NCR Voyix, the Aloha platform remains one of the most widely deployed restaurant operating systems in the world.

Description
Aloha Technologies specialized in developing open-architecture, PC-compatible software designed to streamline high-volume front-of-house ordering and back-of-house management. At a time when commercial restaurant registers relied on proprietary DOS or UNIX-based terminal architectures with cryptic function keys, Aloha engineered a full 32-bit graphical user interface featuring color-coded buttons, intuitive check splitting, and automated order routing.
The company’s core technology suite comprised:
- Aloha TableService: A front-of-house software platform designed for full-service dining, featuring graphic floor-plan mapping, real-time table status tracking, item-level modifiers, automatic check splitting, and integrated credit card settlement.
- Aloha QuickService: A high-throughput order-entry engine engineered for fast-food operators, drive-thrus, and cafeteria lines, optimizing order speed through dynamic combo menus and kitchen routing.
- Local Network Redundancy (Fault Tolerance): A decentralized network architecture where every terminal maintained synchronized database files locally; if the primary file server failed during service, an active terminal automatically assumed the role of the master node without disrupting order entry or losing transaction data.
- Aloha Back Office & Enterprise.com: Administrative management tools delivering centralized menu configuration, recipe costing, automated inventory tracking, time-and-attendance payroll exports, and cross-store data aggregation.
- Aloha eCard & Loyalty: Integrated modules providing gift card validation, stored-value customer accounts, and consumer loyalty programs managed natively through the POS terminal.
History
In 1992, software consultant Manny Negreiro partnered with software architect Brian Cook to incorporate Ibertech, Inc. in North Texas. Recognizing that food service operators were constrained by rigid, single-purpose electronic cash registers, Negreiro and Cook set out to write an integrated hospitality management application built natively for personal computers running Microsoft Windows. The prototype software launched its first operational pilot across a five-terminal network inside a Bennigan’s restaurant in Plano, Texas.
Throughout the 1990s, Ibertech’s “Aloha” branded software captured significant market share among casual dining chains and franchise restaurant operators. Its intuitive graphical interface drastically shortened training times for waitstaff, while its underlying client-server network architecture protected busy restaurants from catastrophic system shutdowns. In January 2001, Ibertech formally adopted the commercial trade name Aloha Technologies to align its corporate identity with its flagship product brand.
As the hospitality sector consolidated, Aloha sought a strategic hardware partner to supply purpose-built, spill-resistant touchscreen terminals capable of withstanding harsh kitchen and bar environments. In December 2003, point-of-sale hardware and kiosk manufacturer Radiant Systems announced an agreement to acquire Aloha Technologies for approximately $45 million in cash, notes, and equity. Finalized in early 2004, the transaction established Radiant’s dedicated Hospitality Division in Dallas under Manny Negreiro’s leadership.
The integration of Aloha’s software catalog with Radiant’s specialized terminals positioned the brand across tens of thousands of franchise restaurant chains, sports arenas, and hotel properties. In 2011, NCR Corporation acquired Radiant Systems for $1.2 billion, incorporating Aloha POS into its commercial retail and food service technology portfolio. In October 2023, following NCR’s corporate split, the Aloha software lineage—including legacy on-premise solutions and next-generation cloud architectures—became the core restaurant platform of NCR Voyix Corporation.
