Through its Eimac product line, CPI continues to manufacture and support high-power vacuum tubes used in amateur radio, broadcasting, industrial applications, and scientific installations.
History
Communications & Power Industries was formed in 1995 when Varian Associates sold its Electron Device Business. The newly formed company inherited decades of engineering expertise and product lines developed by Varian and its predecessors.
Among the inherited businesses was Eimac, originally founded as Eitel-McCullough, Inc. in 1934. Eimac’s transmitting tube and RF power product lines became part of CPI and continue to be manufactured and supported under the Eimac name.
During the late 1990s and 2000s, CPI expanded through acquisitions and internal growth. The company added satellite communications, antenna systems, and advanced microwave technologies to its portfolio, becoming a major supplier to military, commercial, and scientific markets.
CPI products are used in satellite uplinks, television broadcasting, military communications systems, weather radar, scientific research facilities, and medical systems. The company remains one of the few manufacturers capable of producing many types of high-power vacuum electronic devices.
Today, CPI operates multiple manufacturing and engineering facilities in North America and internationally, serving customers in more than 100 countries.
