Kingston Technology manufactures a broad range of memory and storage products for desktop computers, laptops, servers, embedded systems, and enterprise data centers.

The company became well known for its memory modules, including SDRAM, DDR, DDR2, DDR3, DDR4, and DDR5 products. As solid-state storage technology became mainstream, Kingston expanded into SSDs for consumer, professional, and enterprise applications.

Kingston also produces USB flash drives, Secure Digital (SD) cards, microSD cards, card readers, encrypted storage devices, and industrial-grade memory products.

The Kingston FURY brand focuses on high-performance memory and storage products designed for gaming enthusiasts, overclockers, and workstation users.

History

Kingston Technology was founded in 1987 by John Tu and David Sun in Fountain Valley, California. The company was established during a shortage of surface-mount memory chips, leading the founders to develop memory modules that helped address industry demand.

Throughout the 1990s, Kingston expanded rapidly as personal computers became increasingly common in homes and businesses. The company gained a reputation for reliable memory products and strong customer support.

In 1996, SoftBank acquired a majority stake in Kingston. In 1999, Kingston’s founders repurchased the company, returning it to private ownership.

During the 2000s and 2010s, Kingston expanded beyond memory modules into flash memory products, SSDs, and enterprise storage solutions. The company became one of the world’s largest suppliers of third-party memory products and a leading manufacturer of SSDs and removable flash storage.

In 2021, Kingston sold its HyperX gaming peripherals division to HP Inc. The memory and storage product lines continued under the newly created Kingston FURY brand.

Today, Kingston products are sold worldwide and are used in personal computers, servers, gaming systems, industrial equipment, and embedded electronic devices.
