Description

NCR Atleos Corporation designs, manufactures, operates, and services self-directed banking hardware, enterprise software, and independent cash utility networks:

  • Self-Service Banking Hardware: Deploys multifunctional automated teller machines and video-enabled interactive teller machines (ITMs), including cash-recycling dispensers, deposit-automation modules, and multi-sensor biometric security components.
  • ATM-as-a-Service (ATMaaS): Delivers an outsourced operational model where Atleos manages hardware leasing, transaction routing software, software patch management, compliance testing, and cash replenishment for banking institutions.
  • The Allpoint Network: Operates a proprietary network of over 55,000 retail-based ATMs across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Mexico, enabling participating financial institutions and fintech card issuers to offer surcharge-free cash withdrawals to their cardholders.
  • Branch Transformation & Video Banking: Integrates two-way remote video teller feeds and core-connected software stacks, allowing bank branches to migrate complex routine transactions from traditional teller windows to automated self-service terminals.

History

The operational roots of NCR Atleos trace back to 1884, when John Henry Patterson acquired James Ritty’s cash register patents in Dayton, Ohio, to incorporate the National Cash Register Company. Over the course of the 20th century, NCR led advancements in electromechanical accounting, computing mainframes, and retail transaction systems. NCR entered the automated banking field during the late 1970s and 1980s, engineering high-reliability automated teller machines that became a global standard for bank branch automation.

Following an acquisition and subsequent spinoff by AT&T in the 1990s, NCR sharpened its capital focus onto self-service banking. A defining expansion occurred in 2021 when NCR completed the acquisition of Cardtronics for approximately $2.5 billion, securing Cardtronics’ extensive fleet of non-branch retail ATMs and its signature Allpoint surcharge-free network.

In late 2022, NCR announced a comprehensive separation plan to split its digital software operations from its capital-intensive ATM hardware and cash-servicing division. On October 16, 2023, the tax-free partition was officially finalized: NCR’s retail point-of-sale and restaurant platform operations remained with NCR Voyix Corporation (NYSE: VYX), while the self-service banking hardware, ATM services, and network operations launched as NCR Atleos Corporation, trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol NATL. Under President and CEO Timothy C. Oliver, Atleos operates as a pure-play banking infrastructure company, focusing heavily on expanding recurring SaaS and ATM-as-a-Service contracts worldwide.
