United Technologies Corporation traces its origins to United Aircraft and Transport Corporation, formed during the early development of the American aviation industry.

Following federal antitrust actions in the 1930s, the company reorganized into United Aircraft Corporation. Over time, the company expanded into aerospace systems, jet engines, industrial products, and commercial technologies.

In 1975, the company adopted the United Technologies Corporation name to reflect its broader industrial and aerospace operations.

UTC became widely known through major aerospace subsidiaries including Pratt & Whitney aircraft engines and Sikorsky helicopters. The corporation also expanded into building technologies through Carrier and Otis Elevator.

In 2012, UTC combined aerospace operations into UTC Aerospace Systems. In 2018, UTC acquired Rockwell Collins and merged it with UTC Aerospace Systems to form Collins Aerospace.

In 2020, UTC merged with Raytheon Company to form Raytheon Technologies. The corporation was later renamed RTX Corporation.
