Description

Agilent develops instruments and software used for measuring, analyzing, and testing physical and biological properties. Its offerings include chromatography systems, mass spectrometry, and laboratory automation tools used in pharmaceutical research, chemical analysis, and environmental testing.

Historically, Agilent also produced electronic test and measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes and signal analyzers. These operations were later spun off into Keysight Technologies in 2014, allowing Agilent to focus more on life sciences and diagnostics.

History

Agilent Technologies was established in 1999 when Hewlett-Packard spun off its test and measurement, semiconductor products, and chemical analysis divisions into a separate company.

In the early 2000s, Agilent streamlined its business, eventually divesting its semiconductor operations (which became Avago Technologies) and later its electronic measurement business (which became Keysight Technologies in 2014).

Following these changes, Agilent concentrated on life sciences, diagnostics, and applied chemical markets, becoming a leading provider of laboratory instrumentation and analytical solutions.
