Description
Avago Technologies developed a wide range of semiconductor devices used in communications, networking, and industrial systems. Its portfolio included radio frequency (RF) filters and amplifiers for mobile devices, optical components for fiber-optic communications, and custom ASICs for enterprise and data center applications.
The company focused on high-performance and application-specific solutions, often targeting infrastructure markets such as telecommunications and storage systems.
History
Avago Technologies was formed in 2005 when private equity firms KKR and Silver Lake Partners acquired Agilent Technologies’ semiconductor products group, which itself originated from Hewlett-Packard’s earlier electronics divisions.
The company went public in 2009 and pursued an aggressive growth strategy through acquisitions. Notable acquisitions included LSI Corporation in 2014 and Emulex in 2015, expanding its presence in storage and networking.
In 2016, Avago acquired Broadcom Corporation for approximately $37 billion. Following the acquisition, the combined company adopted the Broadcom Inc. name, continuing under that brand as a major global semiconductor and infrastructure software provider.
