Overview
GoldStar was a South Korean electronics manufacturer that later became part of LG Electronics. Founded in 1958, GoldStar was one of the earliest electronics companies established in South Korea and played a major role in the growth of the country’s consumer electronics industry.
The company manufactured radios, televisions, appliances, communications equipment, and electronic components for both domestic and international markets. GoldStar became widely known for producing affordable consumer electronics during the rapid expansion of the global television and appliance industries in the 1960s through 1980s.
GoldStar was affiliated with the Lucky chemical company group, eventually forming the Lucky-GoldStar corporate organization, commonly abbreviated as LG. In 1995, the company formally adopted the LG Electronics name as part of an international branding strategy.
GoldStar products were widely exported and sold throughout North America, Europe, and Asia, including televisions, stereo systems, radios, microwave ovens, and household appliances.
