Overview
LG Electronics is a South Korean electronics manufacturer producing televisions, radios, appliances, display systems, communications equipment, and industrial electronics. The company originated as GoldStar in 1958 and became part of the larger Lucky-GoldStar (LG) corporate group before adopting the LG Electronics name in the 1990s.
LG Electronics grew from a domestic Korean electronics manufacturer into one of the world’s largest consumer electronics companies. The company became especially known for televisions, display technology, appliances, audio systems, and mobile communications equipment.
In 1995, LG Electronics acquired controlling interest in Zenith Electronics Corporation, one of the last major American television manufacturers. Zenith became a wholly owned LG subsidiary in 1999. The acquisition gave LG access to Zenith HDTV technology, patents, and North American engineering operations.
LG Electronics later became a major global manufacturer of LCD, plasma, LED, and OLED televisions, along with appliances, computer monitors, commercial displays, and mobile devices.
