History

Victor Company of Japan (JVC) was established in 1927 and became known for innovations in audio, video, and recording technology. Kenwood traces its origins to Kasuga Radio Co., Ltd., founded in 1946, which later became Trio Corporation before adopting the Kenwood name worldwide.

On October 1, 2008, JVC and Kenwood merged under JVC Kenwood Holdings, Inc. The merger combined JVC’s consumer electronics expertise with Kenwood’s strengths in communications equipment, amateur radio, and automotive electronics.

In 2011, the company reorganized and adopted the name JVCKENWOOD Corporation, completing the integration of its principal operating businesses.

A major expansion of the company’s communications business occurred in 2014 when it acquired EF Johnson Technologies, strengthening its position in the North American public safety communications market and expanding its Project 25 product offerings.

Today, JVCKENWOOD serves customers worldwide through its consumer electronics, automotive, amateur radio, professional communications, and public safety communications businesses.
