Collins Radio was acquired by Rockwell International in 1973 and operated as the Collins division within the larger corporation.

In 2001, Rockwell International separated its aerospace and avionics operations into an independent publicly traded company named Rockwell Collins.

The company became one of the leading global suppliers of avionics and aircraft communications systems for commercial airlines, military aviation, and government aerospace programs.

In 2018, United Technologies Corporation acquired Rockwell Collins and merged it with UTC Aerospace Systems to form Collins Aerospace.
