Rockwell-Standard Corporation was formed in 1958 through the merger of Rockwell Manufacturing Company and Standard Steel Spring Company.
Rockwell Manufacturing had been founded by Willard Rockwell and was heavily involved in automotive and industrial manufacturing, particularly axle systems and heavy-duty truck equipment. Standard Steel Spring Company contributed additional industrial manufacturing capabilities.
During the 1960s, Rockwell-Standard expanded aggressively through acquisitions and diversification into aerospace and defense industries.
In 1967, Rockwell-Standard merged with North American Aviation, one of America’s leading aerospace manufacturers. The merged corporation became North American Rockwell, significantly expanding its presence in aviation, missile systems, and space technology.
The company later became Rockwell International in 1973.
